| Life
& Death in Elizabethan Norton |
An in-depth study of the Derbyshire parish of Norton, which is now
a suburb of Sheffield. In Elizabethan times it was the principal scythe-making
community of northern England. Combining a computer analysis of the
parish registers between 1560 and 1620 with evidence from wills and
inventories, it contains much which is likely to be of interest to
family, local and social historians. The first part of Chapter 5 is
a detailed study of Heeley Bridgehouses, the settlement clustered
around Heeley Mill. |
